Baldface Lodge is a high-alpine cat-skiing facility (elevation 2,050 m) near Nelson, BC, which offers clients 32,000 acres of backcountry snowboarding and skiing opportunities. A new dormitory building was constructed during the summer of 2011 to complement their existing operations. Designed to withstand extremely high snow loads and wind loads, the structure consists of a hybrid design which incorporates a steel roof structure and a wood floor structure. Wood and timber structures were utilized wherever possible to take advantage of local materials and local skilled labour.
